Answers to common questions about life at Wanthong.
How is Wanthong different from a typical nursing facility?
Wanthong is designed as a home, not a medical facility. We focus on creating a comfortable, social environment rather than a clinical one. Our communities are intentionally small (twelve to sixteen residents in communal living) so that each person is known and cared for individually. We do not provide medical nursing care; instead, we support daily living, social connection, and personal comfort.
Can family members visit freely?
Yes. We maintain an open visitation policy because family connection is essential to wellbeing. Families are welcome to visit at any time, join meals, attend activities, or simply spend quiet time with their loved one. We also organize monthly family gatherings to strengthen the sense of extended community.
What does a typical day look like?
Days at Wanthong follow a gentle rhythm that blends structure with personal choice. Mornings often begin with light exercises or stretching, followed by breakfast. The afternoon might include a group activity like calligraphy, card games, or storytelling, along with the daily tea gathering. Evenings are quieter, with time for reading, conversation, or rest. Residents are always free to participate as much or as little as they wish.
How do you handle dietary preferences and restrictions?
Meals are prepared in our communal kitchen with attention to individual preferences and dietary needs. We work with each resident to understand their tastes, cultural food traditions, and any restrictions they may have. For those in the Private Garden Residence, meals are individually prepared and can be served wherever you feel most comfortable.
What is included in the monthly fee?
Each program includes accommodation (where applicable), all meals, housekeeping, laundry, daily activities, and support with personal routines. The Afternoon Tea Social Program includes transportation if needed. The Private Garden Residence includes a personal aide, weekly family updates, and monthly comfort packages. There are no hidden charges; what we describe is what you receive.
How do I know if Wanthong is right for my loved one?
The best way to know is to visit. We encourage you to come, spend time with us, observe a typical afternoon, and meet the people who live and work here. Bring your questions, your concerns, and your hopes. We will share honestly about what we offer and help you consider whether it aligns with what you or your loved one needs.
